Jelani Woods Staying with Jets
Thu, Mar 5, 2026, 6:06 PM
Woods re-signed with the Jets on Thursday, Eric Allen of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: The tight end appeared in four regular-season games for New York last season, catching one pass for four yards. Woods spent the previous two seasons on injured reserve with the Colts due to hamstring and toe injuries.
Breece Hall
Breece Hall Officially gets non-exclusive tag
Tue, Mar 3, 2026, 12:30 PM
The Jets officially placed the non-exclusive franchise tag on Hall (knee) on Tuesday, Eric Allen of the team's official site reports.
Analysis: It was initially reported that New York would place the franchise tag on Hall, and the one-year, fully guaranteed non-exclusive variation allows the running back to negotiate with other teams. The Jets will retain the right to match any offer and be entailed to two first-round picks as compensation from any other team Hall were to sign with, though, a prohibitive enough cost to realistically obstruct any such deals. Still, Hall's ability to engage in dialogue with other teams could open up options in the event that he and New York aren't able to reach terms on a long-term extension by the July 15 deadline. General manager Darren Mougey said at the NFL Scouting Combine that the Jets' goal is to "try to get a long-term deal, keep [Hall] around," and that the team views the franchise tag as a way to "continue to work towards a deal" rather than allow the 2022 second-round pick to hit free agency.
Breece Hall
Breece Hall Tagged by Jets
Tue, Mar 3, 2026, 10:24 AM
New York is placing the franchise tag on Hall (knee) on Tuesday, Connor Hughes of SNY.tv reports.
Analysis: Hall receiving the franchise tag has widely been anticipated, as Jets general manager Darren Moughey said at the NFL Scouting Combine that such a move would occur if both sides could not reach agreement on a long-term deal by Tuesday's deadline. It's significant that Hall will receive the franchise tag, rather than the transition tag, meaning that he will not be able to negotiate with other teams in any capacity and is instead positioned to play out the 2026 campaign on a one-year, fully guaranteed $14.29 million contract. Hall and New York will have until mid-July to continue negotiating on a potential multi-year extension. While Hall's immediate fantasy prospects may have improved had he been able to seek a new landing spot in free agency, the Jets' motivation in retaining the 2022 second-round pick signals clear investment in his status as a focal part of the team's offense. While combatting significant deficiencies elsewhere on offense in 2025, Hall rushed 243 times for 1,065 yards and four scores across his 16 regular-season appearances, adding 36 catches for 350 yards and another score on 48 targets.
Breece Hall
Breece Hall Will be tagged if no long-term deal
Tue, Feb 24, 2026, 12:43 PM
Jets general manager Darren Moughey said Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine that the team intends to place the franchise or transition tag on Hall (knee) if he isn't signed to an extension before the start of free agency, James Palmer of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Hall will be slated to play out the 2026 season on a one-year, fully guaranteed deal worth roughly $14.5 if he receives the franchise tag, while the transition tag would be worth an estimated $11.7 million and allow the running back to negotiate with other teams, though New York would retain the right to match any offer sheet he receives. Across 16 regular-season appearances in 2025, and despite numerous hurdles caused by the Jets' struggles on offense, Hall managed to log the first 1,000-yard rushing campaign of his career, totaling 243 carries for 1,065 yards and four scores, plus a 36-350-1 receiving line (48 targets). While Hall's fantasy prospects could stand to improve were he to hit the open market, it appears the Jets will prioritize retaining the 2022 second-round pick. Though Hall missed Week 18 due to a knee injury, there have been no reports that his availability is in any jeopardy for the start of training camp.
Josh Reynolds
Josh Reynolds Plays just five games in 2025
Thu, Feb 12, 2026, 12:17 PM
Reynolds (hip) caught 11 of 21 targets for 101 yards across five games in 2025.
Analysis: The nine-year veteran from Texas A&M was sidelined for 12 games this season due to a hip injury but was underwhelming when active. Reynolds' most productive stretch of the season came from Weeks 5 through 7, when he caught nine of 16 targets for 83 yards. After inking a one-year, $2.75 million deal with New York last offseason, he's now set to enter unrestricted free agency. Reynolds could draw interest from teams seeking a depth-option at wide receiver ahead of the 2026 season.
Andrew Beck
Andrew Beck Catches two touchdowns in 2025
Thu, Feb 12, 2026, 12:09 PM
Beck caught six of nine targets for 45 yards and two touchdowns while rushing once for five yards over 17 games in 2025.
Analysis: The 29-year-old from Texas tied his career high in touchdown receptions during his first season with the Jets, finishing tied for the second-most on the team. Beck also played a significant role on special teams, logging 315 snaps and recording eight total tackles. After signing a one-year, $1.34 million deal with the Jets last offseason, he's now set to hit unrestricted free agency. Beck will likely land with a team in need of blocking help and special-teams depth ahead of the 2026 season.
Bailey Zappe
Bailey Zappe Lands future deal with Jets
Mon, Jan 12, 2026, 3:20 PM
Zappe signed a reserve/future contract with the Jets on Monday.
Analysis: The state of the Jets' quarterback room is in flux heading into the 2026 campaign, so Zappe looks poised to have a realistic chance at a roster spot. Zappe has 15 NFL appearances (nine starts) under his belt, with all of those having come for the Jets' AFC East rival Patriots, but he didn't appear in a regular-season game in 2025.
Breece Hall
Breece Hall Return to NYJ in play for UFA
Fri, Jan 9, 2026, 12:21 PM
Jets GM Darren Mougey said at Tuesday's end-of-season press conference that the team would like to retain Hall (knee) but wouldn't go into specifics regarding whether the Jets are open to using the franchise tag on the pending unrestricted free agent, Antwan Staley of the New York Daily News reports.
Analysis: Hall sat out the Jets' regular-season finale due to a knee injury after posting a career-high 1,065 rushing yards across the previous 16 games. The versatile playmaker has accrued 5,040 yards from scrimmage in 56 regular-season games since being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft, but Hall has yet to get a taste of NFL postseason action. Hall's likely to have a robust market in free agency, but the Jets could try to bring him back for his age-25 season on the franchise tag if Hall isn't interested in a long-term extension to stay in New York.
Stone Smartt
Stone Smartt Seven catches in 2025
Wed, Jan 7, 2026, 3:38 PM
Smartt caught seven of nine targets for 52 yards while dressing for 15 games in the 2025 season.
Analysis: Smartt played mostly on special teams and drew at least one target in only three of his 15 appearances for the Jets. He spent the previous three seasons with the Chargers and has just one touchdown catch in 53 regular-season NFL games. The 27-year-old Smartt's set to become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason.
Jeremy Ruckert
Jeremy Ruckert First NFL TD among 23 catches
Wed, Jan 7, 2026, 3:35 PM
Ruckert caught 23 of 29 targets for 179 yards and one touchdown while playing in all 17 games in 2025.
Analysis: Ruckert set career highs in catches, receiving yards and targets in his fourth NFL season, and the 2022 third-round draft pick scored his first NFL touchdown in Week 2 against the Bills. After signing a two-year, $10 million contract extension with his hometown team in December, the Lindenhurst, NY native is poised to retain the second spot on the Jets' tight end depth chart behind 2025 second-round pick Mason Taylor (neck) in 2026.
Arian Smith
Arian Smith Seven receptions as rookie
Wed, Jan 7, 2026, 3:29 PM
Smith finished his rookie 2025 season with seven catches for 52 yards on 16 targets while adding four carries for 13 yards. He also notched two kickoff returns for 49 yards and recorded three solo tackles.
Analysis: Smith didn't make much of an impact on offense, as his longest catch went for 23 yards. In his limited action on that side of the ball, Smith primarily ran deep routes but didn't get much attention from the Jets' underwhelming stable of quarterbacks. The 2025 fourth-round pick should have little trouble holding onto a roster spot in 2026 thanks to his contributions as a gunner on special teams, but Smith would need to develop substantially as a receiver to earn fantasy consideration.
Tyler Johnson
Tyler Johnson Finishes with 12 catches in 2025
Wed, Jan 7, 2026, 3:23 PM
Johnson caught 12 of 18 targets for 197 yards and one touchdown in 12 appearances during the 2025 season.
Analysis: Johnson briefly stepped up while the Jets dealt with numerous injuries at wide receiver, leading the team in receiving yards in Week 7 and Week 8 while reaching 60 receiving yards in both games. He had just two catches for 10 yards after the Week 9 bye, though, as Johnson dropped down the depth chart following the team's trades for wide receivers Adonai Mitchell and John Metchie. The 27-year-old Johnson will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason and will likely have to compete for a roster spot in training camp somewhere.
Adonai Mitchell
Adonai Mitchell Sees 58 targets in eight Jets games
Wed, Jan 7, 2026, 3:15 PM
Mitchell caught 33 of 74 targets for 453 yards and two touchdowns while rushing once for minus-4 yards in 16 games split between the Colts and Jets.
Analysis: Mitchell played eight games with each team in 2025 but saw a major uptick in usage after being traded to the Jets, catching 24 of 58 targets for 301 yards and his first two NFL touchdowns with New York. His abhorrent 43.4 percent catch rate (56 catches on 129 targets) through two NFL seasons is a red flag, but subpar quarterback play has certainly contributed to that ugly statistic, though Mitchell has played his part with drops and mental mistakes. The 2024 second-round pick's ability to get open is intriguing, and there's a path to fantasy relevance in 2026 if the Jets improve their QB situation, as Mitchell's favored to hold onto a starting role on the outside, barring the addition of a starting caliber wideout in free agency or the draft.
John Metchie
John Metchie Gets 29 catches in seven Jets games
Wed, Jan 7, 2026, 3:08 PM
Metchie caught 33 of 48 targets for 274 yards and two touchdowns while rushing three times for minus-5 yards in 16 games split between the Eagles and Jets in 2025.
Analysis: Metchie had just four catches for 18 yards in seven games with the Eagles but was much more involved after being traded to the Jets, catching 29 passes for 256 yards and two touchdowns in nine games with Gang Green. The 2022 second-round pick of the Texans has already bounced around to three NFL teams, but it was encouraging that he took on a larger role in his most recent landing spot. The Jets plan to re-sign Metchie as a restricted free agent, and he can be tentatively penciled in as a top-three wide receiver for the team, barring any notable additions via free agency or the draft.
Tyrod Taylor
Tyrod Taylor Makes four starts in 2025
Wed, Jan 7, 2026, 3:02 PM
Taylor (knee) completed 80 of 134 passes for 779 yards and a 5:5 TD:INT across six appearances (four starts) in 2025. He added 27 rushing attempts for 143 yards and one touchdown.
Analysis: Taylor was a more effective passer than Justin Fields (knee) or Brady Cook, but that isn't saying much on a Jets offense that didn't have a player exceed 395 receiving yards. Injuries have continued to hamper Taylor's availability, and he was available only as the emergency third quarterback due to a knee injury as the Jets' 3-14 season mercifully came to its conclusion in Week 18. The 36-year-old quarterback has proven capable enough in a backup role that he'll likely garner some interest in free agency during the offseason if Taylor regains health and chooses to continue his NFL career.
Kene Nwangwu
Kene Nwangwu Effective kickoff returner in 2025
Wed, Jan 7, 2026, 2:54 PM
Nwangwu finished the 2025 season with 13 carries for 49 yards and no targets or touchdowns on offense while adding 604 yards and one touchdown on 18 kickoff returns in 12 games.
Analysis: Nwangwu maintained his status as one of the NFL's best kickoff returners when healthy, as he's up to five kickoff return touchdowns in as many NFL seasons. He didn't record a touch on offense through Week 16 but set a new career high for carries in each of the last two games as the Jets battled backfield injuries, logging six in Week 17 and seven in Week 18. The special teams ace is set to turn 28 years old the day after the Super Bowl and will be an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
Isaiah Williams
Isaiah Williams Five catches in Week 18
Sun, Jan 4, 2026, 7:42 PM
Williams caught five of seven targets for 24 yards and had five kickoff returns for 142 yards in Sunday's 35-8 loss to the Bills. He finished the 2025 season with 26 catches for 193 yards on 36 targets.
Analysis: After being voted the 2025 Jets team MVP by his teammates, Williams fittingly led the team in targets, catches and receiving yards in the season finale, accounting for 24 of Brady Cook's 60 passing yards. Williams got team MVP honors primarily for his contributions on special teams, as he scored two punt-return touchdowns and racked up 1,460 all-purpose yards, though he got more involved on offense down the stretch with at least four catches in each of the last four games. Williams, who is approaching his 25th birthday, is under contract with the Jets through the 2026 season.
Khalil Herbert
Khalil Herbert Season-high 12 carries in Week 18
Sun, Jan 4, 2026, 7:35 PM
Herbert rushed 12 times for 42 yards and caught one of two targets for four yards in Sunday's 35-8 loss to the Bills.
Analysis: Herbert had 12 carries to Kene Nwangwu's seven as the Jets played without Breece Hall (knee) after placing Isaiah Davis (concussion) on injured reserve Saturday. Prior to Sunday's season finale, Herbert had just four carries for 10 yards and no catches all season. The 27-year-old running back isn't expected to garner much interest in free agency, though Herbert may land a depth role somewhere.
Brady Cook
Brady Cook Throws for 60 yards in Week 18
Sun, Jan 4, 2026, 7:32 PM
Cook completed 11 of 22 passes for 60 yards and one touchdown while rushing three times for seven yards in Sunday's 35-8 loss to the Bills. He also threw a two-point conversion.
Analysis: The Jets couldn't get anything going in the regular-season finale, even against a Bills team that played its key starters sparingly, if at all. Cook avoided the embarrassment of being shut out to end the season by throwing a two-yard touchdown pass to Andrew Beck with 7:33 remaining in the fourth quarter, and the undrafted rookie quarterback added a two-point conversion to Quentin Skinner. The Jets are expected to select a quarterback with the second overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, but even if they don't, Cook has shown he may not be the answer under center with just 739 passing yards and a 2:7 TD:INT across five regular-season appearances (four starts).
Tyrod Taylor
Tyrod Taylor Operating as No. 3 QB in Week 18
Sun, Jan 4, 2026, 2:05 PM
Taylor (knee) is inactive but operating as the Jets' emergency third quarterback Sunday versus the Bills.
Analysis: Taylor will serve as the No. 3 QB for the team's regular-season finale. Brady Cook will draw another start while Hendon Hooker handles the backup role against Buffalo.
