Justin Fields
Justin Fields Work ethic standing out
Wed, Jun 25, 2025, 4:36 PM
Jets offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand said during mandatory minicamp in mid-June that his "biggest takeaway" regarding Fields this offseason is that "the guy is just a workaholic," and that "he comes in early, he's here late, and he's trying to digest everything and download all the information and do things the right way," Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Fields has made a positive early impression on Engstrand and new head coach Aaron Glenn, with new top wideout Garrett Wilson also saying at minicamp that "[Fields] trusts me, I trust him, we've got a good communication, we speak to each other well, we know what the other is thinking and that's key." The Jets are hoping the reunion of Fields and Wilson will pay huge dividends, with the two having connected on 66 catches for 1,031 yards and nine touchdowns over 22 games while teammates at Ohio State from 2019 to 2020. Rather than splash plays, though, Fields' focus this offseason has been to improve his pre-snap processing and ability to make quick decisions, and Glenn praised the 26-year-old signal-caller's progress in cleaning up mistakes during minicamp, saying the goal is "no negative plays." Rosenblatt also reports that Fields' early leadership has helped him earn the trust of the locker room. Fields is positioned to enter the first season of his two-year, $40 million deal with the Jets as the team's clear starter, and if he can indeed grow as a passer, he'll have a chance to prove himself as a long-term option for Gang Green. Even if Fields' development in the pocket falls flat, he possesses the rushing ability to provide solid QB2 fantasy value with upside as long as he remains the starter.
Josh Reynolds
Josh Reynolds Early lead for No. 2 role
Fri, Jun 13, 2025, 10:29 AM
Reynolds showcased impressive chemistry with quarterback Justin Fields at mandatory minicamp and is the early favorite to secure the No. 2 receiver role behind Garrett Wilson, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Reynolds' early rapport with Fields and willingness to contribute as a blocker in the run game have made a good impression on head coach Aaron Glenn and offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, currently giving him an advantage over Allen Lazard for the top receiver gig behind Wilson. Of course, Glenn and Engstrand seem likely to import something similar to the run-heavy approach deployed during their time together in Detroit, which would be suited to Fields' skill set. That may leave few targets left up for grabs for wideouts other than Wilson, especially with Breece Hall's presence as a capable pass catcher out of the backfield and the addition of rookie second-round TE Mason Taylor. In deeper fantasy formats, locking up the No. 2 role will at least give Reynolds a realistic path to having spike weeks in 2025.
Breece Hall
Breece Hall Motivated to prove himself again
Fri, Jun 13, 2025, 9:37 AM
Hall said at mandatory minicamp Wednesday he's motivated "to go prove that I am 'The Guy'" to a new regime led by new head coach Aaron Glenn, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Glenn talked up using all of Hall, Braelon Allen and Isaiah Davis "as much as possible" earlier this offseason, but Hall is committed to securing another workhorse role for 2025. "We have a great running back room," Hall said, "but my mentality is every day I'm going to prove that I am the best back on this roster and one of the best backs in the league." He also revealed that despite suiting up for 16 regular-season games in 2024, the knee injury he dealt with was more serious than previously disclosed. "If I could go back, I probably would have taken more time off," the 24-year-old said. If Hall's production dip in 2024 can indeed be explained away by injury and the Jets' overall struggles on offense, his three-down ability and talent level will put him in solid position to bounce back to elite levels in 2025. Glenn and new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand are both acquainted with Detroit's run-heavy, two-back approach, but in New York it's possible QB Justin Fields could mix in alongside Hall more than other tailbacks.
Garrett Wilson
Garrett Wilson Present for minicamp
Tue, Jun 10, 2025, 12:02 PM
Wilson is attending the first day of New York's mandatory minicamp Tuesday, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Wilson continues to seek a contract extension after the Jets exercised his fifth-year option in April, but there have been no signs that the No. 1 wideout's desire for a long-term extension could impact his attendance of team activities. Now heading into his age-25 season, Wilson will spend the offseason working to build chemistry with Justin Fields, the third time in his career he's entered the year with a new quarterback under center. Despite constant turmoil in his surroundings, Wilson has never missed a regular-season game or finished below 1,000 receiving yards since entering the league as a 2022 first-round pick. It remains to be seen how efficient Fields and the passing game will be under new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand, but Wilson remains positioned as the Jets' unquestioned top receiving option and appears destined for a dominant target share.
Malachi Corley
Malachi Corley Banged up at OTAs
Sun, Jun 8, 2025, 3:26 PM
Corley (undisclosed) has been banged up and working off to the side with a trainer at OTAs, Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic reports.
Analysis: Corley struggled to make an impact after being drafted 65th overall by the Jets in 2024, finishing with three catches for 16 yards on six targets and adding two carries for 26 yards while appearing in nine games. There's an opportunity for Corley to grab a larger role in 2025 since the Jets lack a clear pecking order at wide receiver behind Garrett Wilson, but Corley will first need to recover and retake the practice field in order to make his case for more playing to the team's new coaching staff.
Garrett Wilson
Garrett Wilson Fifth-year option made official
Wed, Apr 30, 2025, 2:23 PM
The Jets exercised the fifth-year option on Wilson's rookie contract Wednesday.
Analysis: General manager Darren Mougey said prior to the 2025 NFL Draft that New York would pick up the fifth-year options of London, Sauce Gardner and Jermaine Johnson (Achilles), and the team has now made each of those transactions official. Wilson is coming off three consecutive 1,000-yard seasons and remains the clear top receiving option on the Jets' depth chart, with Allen Lazard, Josh Reynolds and Tyler Johnson behind him in the wide receiver room, and with rookie second-round pick Mason Taylor a new addition to the tight end corps. Even if Justin Fields' dual-threat capabilities result in an overall decline in passing for the Jets' offense, Wilson figures to retain a tremendous target share following the offseason departures of WR Davante Adams and TE Tyler Conklin, and considering his current lack of competition for volume. Picking up the No. 1 wideout's fifth-year option shouldn't make the Jets any less motivated to negotiate a long-term extension with Wilson, who will turn 25 in July.
Garrett Wilson
Garrett Wilson To get fifth-year option
Mon, Apr 21, 2025, 8:50 AM
Jets GM Darren Mougey said Monday that he plans to exercise the fifth-year option on Wilson's rookie contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Wilson's rookie contract will now run through 2026, with a fifth-year option for the final season projected at $16.8 million. He's likely still hoping for an extension this offseason after starting his career with three straight 1,000-yard campaigns as a high-volume target in bad offenses. The Jets figure to run the ball more now that they have dual-threat Justin Fields at quarterback, but Wilson should see a lot of targets anyway, as there isn't much competition for Fields' attention after the offense lost WR Davante Adams and TE Tyler Conklin this offseason.
Allen Lazard
Allen Lazard Agrees to pay cut
Thu, Apr 10, 2025, 8:24 AM
Lazard and the Jets have agreed to reduce his 2025 salary from $11 million to $2.5 million, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: It's the third season of a four-year contract that now includes $1.75 million guaranteed for 2025, after Lazard barely played in 2023 but rebounded last season to score six touchdowns in 12 games (10 starts). He turned 29 in December and may now end up in an open competition for WR roles behind No. 1 Garrett Wilson. This will be Lazard's first season playing for a team that doesn't have QB Aaron Rodgers.
Breece Hall
Breece Hall Needs to impress new coaches?
Mon, Mar 31, 2025, 8:40 AM
New Jets coach Aaron Glenn said Monday that Hall is one of three running backs that the team wants to "utilize as much as possible," Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: The other two presumably are 2024 fourth-round pick Braelon Allen and 2024 fifth-round pick Isaiah Davis, both of whom had some nice moments as rookies while spelling Hall off the bench during his disappointing season. It won't come as any surprise if the uber-talented Hall improves in 2025 and re-establishes himself as a workhorse back under a new coaching staff, but it's nonetheless interesting to see the contrast between Glenn's comment on Hall and what he said when reporters asked about WR Garrett Wilson. Glenn referred to Wilson as a "dynamic player" and said the Jets will try to get him the ball "as much as possible."
Allen Lazard
Allen Lazard Working on contract extension
Sun, Mar 30, 2025, 4:05 PM
Jets general manager Darren Mougey said Sunday that the team is working on a contract restructure with Lazard and hopes to keep him on the roster this offseason, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Lazard was granted permission to seek a trade in early March. The 29-year-old wideout put up relatively mediocre production since joining the Jets on a 4-year, $44 million contract two years ago, posting 60 catches (on 109 targets) for 861 yards and seven touchdowns across 26 appearances. It's unlikely that many teams will be interested in trading for Lazard given the size of his contract; therefore, he'll likely be forced to restructure and/or take a smaller salary whether he is traded or remains on the Jets roster. It's also possible, and perhaps more likely, that he will be released if a contract restructure does not materialize.
Justin Fields
Justin Fields Will start in 2025
Sun, Mar 30, 2025, 3:44 PM
Jets general manager Darren Mougey said Sunday that Fields will be the team's starter heading into the 2025 season, Brian Costello of the New York Post reports.
Analysis: Fields joined the Jets on a two-year, $40 million on March 10 after the team moved on from starting quarterback Aaron Rodgers this offseason. It was widely assumed that the 26-year-old would fill the hole at starting quarterback, so Mougey's comments don't come as much of a surprise; however, the general manager added that incumbent backup Tyrod Taylor will be "on his heels," per Costello. Mougey also said that the team is hoping for Fields to pull off a turnaround similar to a pair of other high first-round draft picks who found success with a different team than the one who drafted them, citing Sam Darnold with the Vikings last year and Baker Mayfield with the Buccaneers, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. Fields performed relatively well after being traded from the Bears to the Steelers last offseason. In 10 appearances with six starts, he completed a career-high 65.8 percent of his passes for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception to go along with 62 carries for 289 yards and five TDs. The Jets' offensive skill players are headlined by a pair of standouts with wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall, but the team lacks in offensive depth and overall infrastructure.
Josh Reynolds
Josh Reynolds Headed to New York
Thu, Mar 27, 2025, 1:00 PM
The Jets signed Reynolds on Thursday.
Analysis: Per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, Reynolds' agreement with the Jets is a one-year deal worth up to $5 million. The 30-year-old is coming off a 2024 regular season in which he combined for 13 catches for 194 yards and a TD over the course of nine games (five with Denver and four with Jacksonville). With New York, Reynolds will have an opportunity to compete for targets behind top option Garrett Wilson in a wideout corps that also includes Allen Lazard, Xavier Gipson, Malachi Corley and Tyler Johnson. A fantasy bounce-back could be in store for Reynolds this coming season should he secure steady snaps, which for now -- based on his new team's current roster -- is a plausible outcome.
Tyler Johnson
Tyler Johnson Signed by Gang Green
Sat, Mar 15, 2025, 9:05 PM
The Jets signed Johnson to a one-year contract Saturday, Al Iannazzone of Newsday reports.
Analysis: Johnson saw modest numbers as a backup with the Rams in 2024, finishing with 26 catches (on 41 tarets) for 291 yards and one touchdown across 15 regular-season games. However, he was not active for the Rams' two playoff games, and he'll look to get more involved in the Jets' passing attack alongside Garrett Wilson.
Kene Nwangwu
Kene Nwangwu Remaining in New York
Fri, Mar 14, 2025, 6:20 PM
The Jets are re-signing Nwangwu (hand) to a one-year contract, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Per Pelissero, the deal is worth up to $2.5 million. Nwangwu logged just one offensive snap over two games with the Jets last season, but he dazzled with a 99-yard kick return for a touchdown in Week 13. Nwangwu ended the campaign on IR due to a hand injury, but he's expected to be healthy by the start of training camp.
Stone Smartt
Stone Smartt Joining forces with Gang Green
Thu, Mar 13, 2025, 2:52 PM
Smartt is signing a one-year contract with the Jets, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: Smartt was the Chargers' top pass-catching TE for a few weeks last season while Will Dissly was injured, but they didn't consider him worthy of a restricted-free-agent tender for $3.26 million. While that isn't the best sign for his NFL future, nor for his odds of gaining fantasy relevance, Smartt at least did well to land with a team that has one of the weakest TE rooms in the league. Incumbent starter Tyler Conklin is an unrestricted free agent, leaving 2022 third-round pick Jeremy Ruckert atop the depth chart, backed only by young, undrafted players. The Jets figure to add more talent at the position if they don't re-sign Conklin, and Smartt's chances to earn a regular role in passing situations likely depends on whether the team gets an experienced starter / early draft pick or settles for another bargain-bin signing / late-round selection. Either way, the path to mainstream fantasy relevance is slim.
Garrett Wilson
Garrett Wilson Set to be WR1 for team's new QB
Thu, Mar 13, 2025, 2:41 PM
Wilson is set to operate as the top wide receiver in 2025 for new Jets quarterback Justin Fields, with whom the team agreed to a two-year, $40 million contract, per Dianna Russini and Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
Analysis: In addition to signing Fields, the Jets have parted ways with Aaron Rodgers and Davante Adams, the latter of whom cut into Wilson's target share significantly after being acquired in a midseason trade with Vegas last season. The mobile Fields isn't considered a particularly proficient passer, but the biggest knock on him has been his failure to get off his first read, and Wilson figures to be that top read frequently in a Jets offense that could still bolster its receiving corps via free agency or the draft but currently lacks a clear starter opposite Wilson. Case in point, D.J. Moore set career highs in both receiving yards (1,364) and receiving touchdowns (eight) with Fields at quarterback for the Bears in 2023. Wilson also has some established familiarity with Fields from their college days, as they were teammates at Ohio State in 2019 and 2020, though Wilson's most productive college season came in 2021 with C.J. Stroud under center.
Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers Closing in on decision
Wed, Mar 12, 2025, 9:18 AM
Rodgers is expected to reach a decision Wednesday on his next team, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Analysis: Reports suggest Rodgers is deciding between signing with the Giants and Steelers, with some chance of the Vikings getting involved. He won't necessarily sign a contract Wednesday, but the Giants apparently should become aware soon whether he'll join them or not.
Justin Fields
Justin Fields Heading to Big Apple
Mon, Mar 10, 2025, 1:53 PM
Fields is slated to sign a two-year, $40 million contract with the Jets, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Analysis: After making 10 appearances, including six starts, for the Steelers in 2024, Fields lands in New York as the replacement for the soon-to-depart Aaron Rodgers. Fields completed 106 of 161 passes (a career-high 65.8 percent) for 1,106 yards, five touchdowns and one interception, notched 62 carries for 289 yards and five TDs and fumbled six times (one lost) in Pittsburgh. With his new squad, Fields will be working with WR Garrett Wilson and RB Breece Hall.
Aaron Rodgers
Aaron Rodgers Emerging as option for Pittsburgh
Mon, Mar 10, 2025, 8:56 AM
Rodgers has emerged as an option for the Steelers, although they're still talking with fellow quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports.
Analysis: Schefter also mentions that the Jets are interested in signing Fields as a replacement for Rodgers, who is set to become a free agent and won't stay in New York unless it's to play for the Giants. The Steelers recently agreed to trade for WR DK Metcalf, giving them a dangerous pair of downfield targets with WR George Pickens still on the roster. It'd be a good situation for Rodgers, backed by a solid defense and throwing to talented wideouts, but the fit will also depend on Pittsburgh's level of interest and willingness to give the 41-year-old a desirable contract.
Allen Lazard
Allen Lazard Gets permission to find trade
Tue, Mar 4, 2025, 9:52 AM
The Jets have given Lazard permission to seek a trade, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
Analysis: The second season of Lazard's four-year, $44 million contract went much better than the first, but it still looks like a huge overpay, and he still hasn't found success with any QB besides Aaron Rodgers (who won't be with the Jets in 2025). A release is more likely than a trade, as Lazard presumably would need to accept a pay cut to generate any interest. He's scheduled for non-guaranteed base salaries of $11 million in both 2025 and 2026.
